2010 marks a significant development for ACM's civics education programme, expanding the schools based speaking competition to the Central-Coast, with plans well underway to expand to each of the states next year.
All students speeches were extremely well researched and delivered. The students informed, entertained and encourged their audiences, describing their knowlege about our system of Government and Constitutional arrangements prior to the competition as almost non-existent. The students felt the project was definitely worthwhile.
A summary of the Sydney & Central-Coast competition can be seen below:
Many of the students commented on how useful the resource, http://www.crownedrepublic.com.au/, was in preparing for their speech. The information contained on the website is layered, with overviews of information readily available.
